      <title>A comparative study of poverty reduction strategies of Thailand and Nigeria</title>
      <link>https://rsuir-library.rsu.ac.th/handle/123456789/3393</link>
      <description>Title: A comparative study of poverty reduction strategies of Thailand and Nigeria
Authors: Rabiu, Nura Gambo
Abstract: Poverty continues to pose a significant challenge globally. In 1990, an estimated 1.9 billion people were living in extreme poverty, constituting 36% of the world population. By 2015, global poverty estimates indicated that 735 million people were living in extreme poverty, which accounted for 10% of the world population. Thailand has successfully implemented a poverty alleviation strategy and achieved significant progress. In contrast, Nigeria has struggled to effectively implement poverty reduction strategies, resulting in limited success in addressing poverty issues. Therefore, the objectives of this study are to 1) the factors contributing to the high poverty rate in Nigeria from 1990 to 2022, 2) analyze the poverty reduction strategies implemented by Thailand from 1990 to 2022, and 3) propose recommendations for Nigeria to adopt strategies from Thailand’s successful poverty reduction efforts. The data collection for this study employed semi-structured interviews, involving 12 participants with relevant experience in the field of poverty reduction. The results of the interviews illustrated several factors contributing to the poverty rate in Nigeria, including corruption, conflict and insecurity, political instability, ineffective policy implementation, and inadequate infrastructure. Conversely, the interviews revealed mechanisms implemented by Thailand to reduce poverty, such as comprehensive sustainable development initiatives, social protection programs, investment in human capital, adoption of the sufficiency economy philosophy, and measures to enhance food security. Based on the conducted interviews, the discussion identifies three primary factors contributing to the high poverty rate in Nigeria: corruption, conflict and insecurity, and inadequate access to employment opportunities. Furthermore, the interviews reveal five main strategies implemented by Thailand to reduce poverty: comprehensive sustainability initiatives, investment in human capital, establishment of social welfare programs, creation of a protection net, and measures to enhance food security

      <description>Title: Thailands smart agriculture and its impacts on Thai farmers a case study of smart agriculture in Ayutthaya Province
Authors: Yanisa Meechoovet
Abstract: Smart agriculture driven by technologies is one of the agriculture strategies under the 20-year Thailand’s national strategy, laid out in 2018, on competitive enhancement strategy which has been developed to achieve value-added agriculture and improve Thai agriculture to meet the global demand and to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN). This study examines Thai agricultural sector’s problems by using agriculture sector in Ayutthaya Province as a case study. The study also examines the implementation of the smart agriculture in&#xD;
Ayutthaya Province by focusing on its advantages and disadvantages and offers appropriate solutions for greater development. The data were collected using semistructure interviews with 18 key informants who have relevant experience in the area of agriculture and smart agriculture technologies. The results of the interviews illustrated the current situation of the agricultural sector such as the problems of irrigation system management, high production cost, and a decline in the agricultural commodity prices.&#xD;
The results also indicated advantages and disadvantages of the smart agriculture used to develop Thai agricultural sector. The smart agriculture can help reduce the production costs, increase productivity in terms of quantity and quality, and help reduce the use of&#xD;
labor. However, some groups of farmers, especially the elderly, deny using the smart agriculture as it is costly, and they do not have sufficient background knowledge about technologies. The research also gives proper recommendations for improving the&#xD;
agricultural sector such as promoting and providing knowledge and training skills about smart agriculture to both farmers and the officers, preparing better access to loans for farmers and group of service providers, and adjusting government’s annual budget ceiling

      <description>Title: Banjul-Dakar relations : Impact of the casamance conflict
Authors: Sambou, Philip Sabena
Abstract: The Gambia and Senegal once shared a unique vision for a common destiny. This vision, however, was short-lived and therefore never realised. Despite such an unfortunate instance, these mutually dependent neighbours pend continued to close ranks and work together. Nevertheless, relations between them are far from being ideal due southern Senegal. This to The Gambia's complicit role in the Casamance conflict of study, therefore, is part of a growing body of knowledge of Casamance conflict in southern Senegal. Specifically, the research about the of the Casamance conflict on the relations between The result, therefore, the significance study examines the impacts Gambia and Senegal. As a of my research is to not only add to the already understanding of the relations between The Gambia and Senegal, but will contribute to greater understanding of the Casamance conflict and also stimulate where necessary, further research on the subject matter and on other perspectives of the Casamance conflict hitherto not dealt with. By examining the impacts of this peculiar conflict, I clarify the unfortunate situation experienced when instead of working hand-in-glove in finding common ground to solve the conflict; The Gambia and Senegal faces the real situation of grappling with diplomatic antipathy due to this conflict that is really affecting their relations, drifting them further apart. My piece of work attempts to solve this problem, drawing more attention to this phenomenon and underscoring the urgent need to put off the flames of the Casamance conflict and restore the trust and confidence that once characterised relations between The Gambian and Senegal.

      <title>Role of the Bhutan broadcasting service (BBS) after the institution of democracy in Bhutan</title>

      <description>Title: Role of the Bhutan broadcasting service (BBS) after the institution of democracy in Bhutan
Authors: Rinchen, Sonam
Abstract: Bhutan has undergone major changes as a nation in the last one decade. The&#xD;
arrival of television and the introduction of democracy have greatly changed the sociopolitical&#xD;
landscape. Today, Bhutan is gearing towards the second parliamentary&#xD;
elections. In the new political environment, the Bhutanese media have to play a vital&#xD;
role in promoting and facilitating democracy. This paper tries to examine the role the&#xD;
Bhutan Broadcasting Service, BBS, has played and continues to play in the sociopolitical&#xD;
development in Bhutan. The paper in particular attempts to answer questions&#xD;
pertaining to editorial independence, its role as a public service broadcaster in the&#xD;
changing political scenario and as a provider of information on politics. This study&#xD;
concludes that the BBS news is credible. About 82.4 % of the respondents believe that&#xD;
the BBS provides an independent view. However, 17.6% of the respondents believe&#xD;
that BBS news and programmes are subject to censorship. The study also concludes&#xD;
that BBS news and programmes have huge impact on the viewers. The study also&#xD;
shows that BBS is the main source of political information and that the BBS needs to&#xD;
strengthen its watchdog role to effectively contribute to the growth of democracy.&#xD;
Around 44.1% of the respondents say that the BBS is not playing its role in fostering&#xD;
democracy. However, the general feeling is that the BBS is effectively playing the role&#xD;
of a public service broadcaster by informing and educating people on democracy and&#xD;
by providing a public forum.
