dc.description.other-abstractThe objective of this study was to explore the approaches to connect traditional and regional culture in the researcher’s hometown to modern lifestyle and contemporary design. In this study, interviews and surveys were carried out to explore individual interests in culture-related products as well as city culture and figure out the current problems existing in the market. The result showed that a lack of creativity, universality, adaption, function and resonance decreased people’s preference on purchasing cultural products. In addition, case studies were also included to explore how to integrate cultural values into design concept and bring folk craftsmanship into design process. Based on the study of the typical cultural heritages, the concept was developed and interpreted in three different design ideas including the exploration of its connections to daily life scenarios, the inner relationship between two concept words and the fluidity between traditional and modern as well as natural and man-made. Through a series of experiments in materials and techniques, textures and firing methods of ceramics, the application of traditional craftsmanship, such as tie-dye and embroidery, to contemporary design practice was discussed and studied.en_US
