dc.description.other-abstract | This mixed method study compared grade 7 students' Chinese writing skill before and after using Mind Mapping and investigated their satisfaction towards the use of Mind Mapping in a Chinese writing course in Jiangsu Province, China. The sample group consisted of 30 grade 7 students from Jiangsu Province, China. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected through four lesson plans, pre-test, post-test, questionnaire and focus group interview. Quantitative data were analysed using means, standard deviation and paired sample t-test. Qualitative data were analysed using thematic analysis. Data collection lasted for four weeks and a teaching experiment was conducted online due to the pandemic. The results of the pre-test and post-test showed that the students in the sample group improved their language writing skill with a post-test score (x = 51.67, SD = 13.40) and a pre-test score (x = 33.40, SD = 13.98). The data collected from the questionnaire indicated that all items on the questionnaire were rated highly. The majority of students in the sample group expressed positive satisfaction with the use of Mind Mapping in Chinese writing learning. This study demonstrated that the use of Mind Mapping provided an alternative and effective method for Chinese writing learning. Consequently, Chinese teachers all over the world, including those in China, may have this option at their teaching Chinese. | en_US |
