dc.description.other-abstractThe research aims to 1) study the narrative structure of thriller films and 2) investigate the audio-visual language employed in the thriller films. This study adopts a qualitative approach using text analysis to analyze six award-winning thriller films released between 2000 and 2023. The selected films are 1) The Bourne Identity, 2) Identity, 3) No Country for Old Men, 4) Inception, 5) Argo, and 6) Train to Busan. In terms of the narrative structure of thriller films, a predominant pattern emerges wherein many employ binary opposition to shape characters, establish conflicts, and intricately blend nonlinear narrative structures with confined spaces and flashbacks. Additionally, a minority of thriller films opt for the classic three-act structure, confining the plot to limited spaces to heighten suspense, resulting in a clear narrative style and a more relaxed narrative rhythm." In terms of the audio-visual language of thriller movies, The majority of thriller films employ diverse cinematographic approaches, utilizing an array of staggered light and shadow, composition, sound, and montage editing techniques. These strategies are employed comprehensively to shape character images, define character relationships, build film suspense, and cultivate an immersive thriller atmosphereen_US
