dc.description.other-abstract | This is the first pilot study utilizing intradermal platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in the treatment of lichen planus pigmentosus (LPP). Five participants with a diagnosis was LPP by clinical and histologic features enrolled in these studies. The participants received three sessions of intradermal PRP 2 weeks apart, with a follow up after 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 8 weeks. The melanin index (MI), clinical improvement of pigmentation, patient satisfaction score, and monitored adverse effects were measured. The mean MI score of the subjects was 450.33±69.91 and declined to 392.60±73.88 at the end of study (week 12). All patients demonstrated a significant reduction of the MI score since the first PRP injection (week 2). Clinical improvement as evidenced by escalation of mean QGS grading by 2 dermatologists was initially observed at week 6. The mean patient self-assessment score at week 12 was reported to be thr level of satisfaction, “very satisfied”. Adverse effects were minimal including swelling at injection sites and bruising, which spontaneously resolved in a few days. In summary, intradermal injection of PRP could be an effective alternative or complementary treatment option for treatment-resistant lichen planus pigmentosus. The limitation of our study was the small sample size and short follow-up period. | en_US |
