metadata.dc.description.other-abstract: In light of concerns among Chinese parents regarding the stifling impact of the traditional exam-oriented education system on creativity, innovation, and critical thinking, some have turned to homeschooling as an alternative. This qualitative study delves into the motivations, experiences, and methodologies of 24 Chinese homeschooling families in Thailand. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the researcher combines qualitative interviews, focus groups, and observations to comprehensively explore homeschooling practices. The study delves into the ideological foundations of homeschooling, examining the intersection of parental beliefs, pedagogical philosophies, and societal expectations. Based on empirical data and educational literature for effective homeschooling practices are formulated to foster optimal learning environments and enrich the educational journey for homeschooled students. The findings indicate that motivations for homeschooling often revolve around personalized teaching, dissatisfaction with the exam-oriented system, and a commitment to bilingual education. Furthermore, homeschooled students exhibit comparable academic and socio-emotional outcomes compared to their peers in traditional schooling. In conclusion, this study provides a comprehensive exploration of homeschooling ideology, weaving together experiences, expectations, needs, and guidelines. It contributes to academic discussions on alternative education and offers practical insights for stakeholders involved in shaping the future of homeschooling within the broader educational landscape
