metadata.dc.description.other-abstract: This study compared the English vocabulary skill of grade 8 students in Sichuan Province before and after using Mind Mapping and investigated their satisfaction with an English vocabulary course using Mind Mapping. The sample group consisted of 30 grade 8 students from Sichuan Province, China. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected through six lesson plans, pre-test, post-test and semi-structured interview. Quantitative data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation and paired sample t-test. Thematic analysis was used for qualitative data. Due to the pandemic, the data collection continued for six weeks and an instructional experiment was conducted online. The pre-test and post-test results showed that the students in the sample group had improved their English vocabulary skill with a pre-test mean score ( x̅= 13.33, SD = 4.50) and a post-test mean score ( x̅= 20.30, SD = 4.19). Then, data collected from semi-structured interview showed that the students in the sample group were satisfied with the application of Mind Mapping in English vocabulary learning. This study showed that the use of Mind Mapping provided an effective alternative way to English vocabulary learning. Therefore, English teachers all over the world including those in China may have such a choice when teaching English.
