metadata.dc.description.other-abstract: This study evaluates the competitiveness of Thailand’s tropical fruit exports to China by analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of air, sea, and land transportation modes. As China’s largest supplier of tropical fruits, Thailand faces challenges in balancing cost efficiency, transit time, and quality preservation. Through interviews with six Thai exporters and Chinese importers, combined with secondary data analysis, the research identifies critical factors influencing transportation decisions. Key findings reveal that sea transport dominates (51% of exports) due to its low cost but struggles with prolonged transit times (4–10 days) and quality degradation; land transport (48% of exports) offers a balance between cost and speed (2–7 days) but faces bottlenecks from customs delays and inadequate cold chain infrastructure; and air transport (0.54% of exports) ensures freshness for premium fruits like durians but remains cost-prohibitive. The study highlights challenges such as inconsistent cold chain management, border clearance inefficiencies, and seasonal demand fluctuations. Recommendations include adopting multimodal logistics strategies, investing in IoT-enabled cold chain technologies, streamlining customs digitization, and leveraging emerging routes like the China-Laos Railway. These insights provide actionable guidance for exporters, policymakers, and stakeholders to enhance Thailand’s competitiveness in China’s fruit market while addressing sustainability and cost-effectiveness
